Opera Develops Search Engine For Web Developers

Posted by Soulskill on Sat Oct 18, 2008 01:06 AM
from the web-devs-need-love-too dept.
nk497 writes "The Metadata Analysis and Mining Application (MAMA) doesn't index content like a standard search engine, but looks at markup, style, scripting and the technology behind pages. Based on those existing MAMA-ed pages, 80.4 per cent of sites use cascading style sheets (CSS), while the average web page has 47 markup errors and 16,400 characters. Should you want to know which country is using the AJAX component XMLHttpRequest the most, MAMA can tell you that it's Norway, with 10.2 per cent of the data set." Additional coverage is available at Computerworld, and a deeper explanation is up at Opera's Dev site.

I want to go on the record as denying all association with the parent troll. It does not meet my exceptionally low standard for Slashdot trolls and does not even mention Russia or Hot Grits.
  • This is a dup. It's not a very interesting result, either. A list of the most common HTML tags? Big whoop.

    • Yeah, because knowing what the web is actually made of is completely useless to people and companies who are supposed to be able to handle said web, and need to know what to focus on...

what percentage of /. articles are dupes. Now that would be useful!
      • What about the duplicates of the duplicates of the duplicates? We need to figure out how many levels of recursion they can achieve.

Ah, it's simple: it's turtles all the way down.

Will MAMA tell you why you still live in her basement? This would be astonishingly useful for the entire slashdot population.
MAMAing (as in googling) these things is priceless.

  • Yo! MAMA's so slow, she had to post on slashdot twice to get her point across.

The /. tagging system is borked. Look at all the recent tagtrolls.
