  • Who said geeks are no good at sports? ;)
    • Uhm many people are actually thinking this ... but i don't think it's entierly true. I don't consider myself as a geek, but i spend a lot of time in front of a computer, but i also do sports, more or less regularly.
Anyway it's a really good way get a break (no, not in a dark fitness room, that won't help alot :)
  • I can't see which country he represents, or is he wearing Debian on his back?

    Well done anyway.
  • Definately cool -- congratulations to the guy.
  • It was great hearing them talk about a blind skier that was a programmer. I pointed him out to my 9 year old son, but I had no idea that he was a Linux programmer.
What a real example!!! If you read this Bart, keep up both good works!
  • Bart, you are the only hero of an stubburn self-righteos man .. me.

But having said that, were in the HELL did you get snow to practice one,
since you are from australia [the-north-pole.com]
or did I subscribe to Lucid Dreaming(TM)?

  • only a few of us, who are endowed with everything, can only dream of. You go my friend. Goes to show that there is no substitute to hardwork in any field.
    Congratulations!!!

I was surprised to read that Bart collects stamps. The idea of a blind stamp collector is somewhat counter-intuitive. I'd be interested in knowing more, particularly about what kind of visual aids he uses and what role linux plays in the blind-geek culture.
    • I had the pleasure of working with Bart at a certain Australian wagering company. At that point, he wasn't 100% blind (but fairly close to it, as I could understand). He could read a 19in screen, but only by putting his head right up to the monitor. Perhaps he's using a similar approach for the stamps...

In any case, the other memorable thing I found was how fast he'd walk around. His regular speed was about power walking level, which is pretty impressive when packing a cane. I didn't know he was athletic, but I'm not surprised now I find out.

Congratulations Bart, and best of luck in the future.

  • ...programming was a paralimpics sport.

    Just kidding... Congrats Bart!

Dynamically binding, you realize the magic. Statically binding, you see only the hierarchy.

Working...
