Assembly 2002 Demo Party Results 10

moonbender writes: "The Assembly 2002 demoscene event is over, and as always spawned a large number of awesome productions. There were several competitions, most notably the 4 kb intro, 64 kb intro and the demo compos. Both the official results as well as the files themselves are available on dedicated mirrors by scene.org. While most of the demos are for the Windows platform, there are some Linux and Java demos, too, and whole compos dedicated to consoles and mobile devices."

In times of 3 MBit home connections, it seems silly to squeeze demos into 4KBytes or 64KBytes, but you definitely need to get the 64k intro category winner "squish" by AND. It is absolutely amazing how much can be done with so little space.
  • if only to read:

Sonera's Windows Media server has died completely. The stream is now only available as Real Media 8 at 56k/128k/192k.

    ahhhh..

  • It's nice to see that people still do demo conventions and stuff. It's so 80's. :)

I was also happy to see that Skaven [futurecrew.com] from Future Crew did a comeback. But I was disappointed from the result.. first of all, he didn't release the "source" of the song, "The Goblin Returns" [scene.org], but just the finished product (an OGG file). That file got first place, but it was much less interesting to hear than it's precedent, "Catch That Goblin" [futurecrew.com] (which also got first place in the same convention, 7 years ago... - that file is an S3M, and it's playable through winamp).

Btw: The latter song (the one I liked more) can be great as the official anthem of the Troll High Council. :)
  • Most of these demos are made for late gen video cards. And one of them really didn't like my dual monitors. Had both of my monitors vsyncing like mad. Not a good thing.

Microsoft is phasing it out in favour of an ape-like language of grunts and groans. They are the leaders in software design (take a look at .NET), and know a winner when they see one.

So while you people will be jumping if not zero and comparing two registers, mighty microsoft will be pouring out gui, newbie friendly apps.

See you on the over side.
