Come to Rubi-Con in Detroit, March 28-30 5

Jason Scott writes "The 5th annual Rubi-Con hacker conference is about to begin just outside of Detroit, Michigan. From the 28th to the 30th of March, there'll be talks, movies, and general tomfoolery. Last year had 600 attendees and we expect a ton more this year. If you've never been to a hacker conference before, this is an easy place to start. Check out the schedule, speakers and fun at the Rubi-con website."

For all my fellow Apple fans in area, also be sure to check MacHack [machack.com] from June 19-21, 2003 (in Dearborne). It's a bit expensive, but there is a $50 price for students... Hard to believe there are two great conferences this Spring/Summer in the Detroit area, combine this with the Borders in Ann Arbor's computer reference section and you've got a few geek vacations planned in the crumbling heart of the automotive world!

By the way, has anyone ever seen a better reference selection in a brick and mortar store? I could spend all day there if my girlfriend didn't need jeans at Urban Trendsetters or whatever that place is that charges $30 for the Atari shirt that I can just go up to my attic and find...

Her: "PHP again, what does that even mean? You're just reading the same book over and over again..."
Me: "No, no, no, this is PHP and XML, the other one was just PHP!"

I went to this last year and it was a blast (represnt'n the NC crew!). Sucks I can't make it this year.

Sigh, that poor poor hotel never saw it coming.

Rubi-con is much fun. Last year, firecrackers were shot at a presenter, stairwells were douced with fire extenguishers, a jacuzzi was soaped, and the rubi-con web site defaced with a 10 minute star wars style flash animation.

On the more normal side, there were tons of good speakers, lots of alcohol, and excellent looking geek chicks.

Oh, if the site buckles under slashdot, Jason Scott put up a mirror here - http://www.cow.net/rubicon/decaffeinated/index.htm l [cow.net]
  • To bad I can't come. I don't know what would be more fun, this, or Fragapalooza. I have to sit at home and finish my books on C++, also I have some turning old enough so that my mommy lets me ride my bike on the other side of the street too.

Anyone can make an omelet with eggs. The trick is to make one with none.
