Professor_Quail writes "Mexico enacted a controversial law Thursday decriminalizing possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and other drugs while encouraging free government treatment for drug dependency. The law sets out maximum "personal use" amounts for drugs, also including LSD and methamphetamine. People detained with those quantities will no longer face criminal prosecution when the law goes into effect Friday."

  • I'm curious to see how long it takes before somebody starts calling this a war on the war on drugs. It will be an interesting experiment to see whether decriminalization really does have detrimental societal effects. We can finally get some data to help our decision making (assuming we have legislators that believe in data). How come the AP only asked the "Drug Czar" about this? You would think this would be the sort of thing the State Department would get involved with.

    On a side note, what is 15 micrograms

      Didn't read the article, so I'm trusting the 15 microgram number.

    • No matter how empirical the data is from this social experiment is there is too much money to be made fighting drugs. The people making the money will not give it up easily. As for your observation 250 micro grams of LSD using a gram of acid as opposed to a gram of pot or cocaine it only takes about 10 micro grams to "get you going" of LSD where as if I remember correctly 250 micro grams is the normal dose
