Toorcon - 20 Years after Big Brother 7

Dumpster Diver writes "Toorcon is San Diego's own hacker/security conference happening right around the corner. September 24-26, for two day the conference will try to bridge the gap between intrusion and defense creating an environment that gets people motivated to learn, participate, and contribute to the community around them. This year's lineup of speakers looks amazing."

Right around the corner, huh? Since when have I lived in San Diego?

Unfortunately, just like last year, ToorCon is on the Jewish High Holidays. Last year it was on Rosh Hashanah, and this year it's on Yom Kippur. Kind of sucks for us Jewish hackers. Since this made me sad, I emailed h1kari [luniac.com] (one of the founders), and it looks like next year that change should be made.

Apparently not amazing enough for anybody on /, to care :)

This will be the 6th Toorcon and my personal 4th. I've liked all of them a lot. The talks range from psuedo-political to highly technical (last year's talk about finding a truly random number generator was waaaay over my dumbass head). The atmosphere is very relaxed (duh) but not nearly as party-oriented as Defcon. It has the same type of games as Defcon (scavenger hunt, rootwars, etc.), and I get to ask the feds rude questions too!

So it's like Defcon light. They cut out all the crap and left the educational stuff.
