hypnosec writes: Patent offices of the US and Europe have published a new Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) System signaling that they are inching towards a universal patent system. The universal patent system or the CPC as US and Europe calls it, has been developed to make the working of patent offices on either side of the Atlantic more efficient; reduce duplication of work; bring in efficiency while searching for prior art and make documents more accessible to patent offices across the globe. The draft for the CPC has been released with the effective date pegged as January 1, 2013.
