Interview with Adrian Silasi of SiSoftware 8

dreamchaser writes: "Many Slashdot readers are no doubt familiar with SiSoftware's Sandra benchmarking/system analysis tool. Here is a brief interview with the head honcho at SiSoftware, C. Adrian Silasi. Note that there will be a Linux version of Sandra coming out, which I think is very good news for the Linux benchmarking situation. Shameless plug of course, as I conducted the interview. I think it is a good fit for Slashdot, though."

Looks like it already works with linux... Seems to say so here [demon.co.uk] anyway.
    • It's not linked to anything, so it must mean 'in process'. Adrian states within the interview that it is being ported to Linux, so if anyone should know what is up - it would be him :) I like SANDRA, it gives you great info about the system as a whole. Benchmarks are benchmarks...you know how that goes. But, I am very much looking forward to the Linux version, when completed. Nice little interview.
  • I know there's bonnie, and ap, and a few others (don't forget BOGOmips ;-)), but an "all-round" benchmarking tool like Sandra is something that's missing ... Glad they'll port Sandra!

the number of comments here would tend to say otherwise...
  • Yes, Sandra is being ported to Linux (RedHat/Mandrake). The hardest part is to port the interface (from MFC), the rest are just normal C++ classes, hopefully it should go quicker... It's just a question of time.

This is the Linux-related sentence - not very descriptive. From personal experience I can say that the UI is nearly always the most time-consuming part, whether for a port or a complete re-write (assuming it's not a kludge job). I mean, it's just a matter of time before Linux takes over the world, right? Soon, I hope??

WARNING TO ALL PERSONNEL: Firings will continue until morale improves.

Working...
