2001 XFree86 Technical Conference 1

keithp writes: "XFree86, Gnome and KDE are sponsoring the first XFree86 Technical Conference to be held concurrently with ALS in Oakland this November. We're looking for people interested in presenting novel and exciting stuff they're doing with XFree86 at all levels -- from X server hacks to toolkits, applications, theming and 3d graphics. There's also space for tutorials, BOFs and working groups -- if you're involved in an X-related group interested in getting together for non-electronic communication, we've got just the place."

a huge thanks to all in the xf86 team.

X first appeared on my computer 5 or 6 years ago, after much (much!) struggle with whatever distribution came with the QUE book I bought. (Or maybe the Running Linux disk is the one I finally got to work first ... forget.) It wasn't X's fault though, it was badly documented hardware and unfamiliarity with *nix (heck, with computers!) at the time.

Now? Xf86 4.0.3 installs automagically, and it rocks. Now I have to get a card worthy of it (i.e. supported with good 3D, unlike my old Stealth).

Is there a paypal or similarly easy way to contribute something for those of use who cannot afford to donate expensive video cards? :)

It's a naive, domestic operating system without any breeding, but I think you'll be amused by its presumption.
