Rubicon 2002, Detroit Michigan April 5-7th 12

This is Rubi Con's 4th year in existance. With over 60 speakers it will be 72 hours of fun. Maybe we will see some of the Slashdot Mob there?

Rubi Con is about knowledge. It is about opening doors and it is about understanding your world, the world of technology, in new ways. Rubi Con is a yearly technology conference with a focus on data and network security. We celebrate the duality between IT professionals --those who keep people out-- and the underground computer "hackers" --those who try to get in. To us, they are two sides of the same coin. We believe that by bringing them together, each can learn an amazing amount. Our goal is to teach --through a variety of expert speakers, panels, workshops, games, and other means-- and to foster an environment where people aren't afraid to ask --and learn-- from their neighbors.
Yes, they are 100% buzzword compliant. Now what is the conference good for?

Don't let the city of Detroit (most murders in 2001!!!, up 1 from 2000, to just over 1.33 per day) scare you away from Rubi, you won't be anywhere near it.
OTOH, perhaps Rubi doesn't want any fraidy-cats around or they'd move it to Ann Arbor or Southfield or somewhere a little less frightening to those who watch the news.

Please, I've lived in Detroit all my life. Never been shot (or shot at)... and I go into the Cass Corridor 3-4 times a month on the weekends (only 2 decent clubs in the Metro area are there).
Come to Detroit... we won't hurt you, really. (ha ha ha ha ha)
But seriously... Detroit itself isn't all that, but we do have casinos downtown, and Windsor is just a hop across the border (post 9/11, it takes a *little* longer to make the crossing, but still 15 minutes most times at the border). Ann Arbor is maybe 20 minutes from the hotel, and Dearborn is maybe 15 minutes tops. *I* think it's still a fun town!
