FOSDEM Meeting in Brussels This Weekend 68
Anonymous Coward writes "One of the most popular Free and Open Source events in Europe takes place this week-end in Brussels. The Free and Open Source Software Developers' European Meeting, entirely organised by volunteers the event has, in three editions, gained much attention from developers. This is a really technical, non-commercial event organised by the Free & Open Source Software community for the community. Take a look at the FOSDEM website, and take a look at the impressive schedule."

PT 2 There are lots of bars in brussels where the ex pat community hang out, these are located either around shuman (metro stations shuman or maalbeek) or the stock exchange (metro stations bourse or de brouckere)
Round schuman you have The wild geese, kitty o'sheas and the hairy canary among others. You can make a little pub crawl out of it. Coming from FOSDEM by metro, get of at maalbeek and turn left, as you leave the station turn left (downhill) you will spot the Wild Geese on the corner. After you have finished there, cross the dual carriageway outside the pub and head up the hill. You will pass a number of restaurants (the indian is fairly good) as well as kitty o'sheas on your right. There is also a decent sushi place there, beware it closes early (2100 i think) and sells out frequently. When you reach the top of the hill turn left for the Hairy Canary one of the cheaper pubs in the area.
Around the stock exchange: get of a de brouckere and head for the exit called "anspach". Lots of bars and restaurants round here. Including O'reilly's which you should be able to see as you exit the metro. Another one in the area to check out is Loplops (just up the road from the sleazy strip club I mentioned earlier) a bit dingy but loads of different belgian beers
